CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE
1998 – Thanksgiving
My sister and niece arrived from Montego Bay in November.
CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR
1999 – Off The Beaten Path
I couldn’t see any logic in sitting around an empty shop, so I took to the streets.
New Hopeton Bank was open for business again.
CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE
1999 – New Hopeton Bank Part II
“I have a little proposition for you that I think could work out for everyone,” the nephew said, then he laid it out for me.
CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
1999 – Triage
“You did five runs this week?” I asked Mundo. “No subcontracting?”
“I mean, I sent out people I trust,” Olmando amended. “I got the money to you, didn’t I?”
CHAPTER SIXTY-SEVEN
1982 – Flashback To Cornwall
Because of my professional qualifications, I was told, “When you get here we’ll put you in the office.”
I stayed in Cornwall for two years.
CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT
1999 – Boxing Day
“Is this about Mundo?” Bolo asked.
“It is,” I confirmed. “Mundo is running amok. We don’t know if it’s life threatening, but it certainly looks dangerous.”
CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE
1999 – Designated Areas
“My work is in service to Panama,” said Téo. “But there’s no reason for me to be here permanently. New York’s my home.”
I smiled at him. Aside from the Mundo problem, it seemed like Téo really had it all figured out.
CHAPTER SEVENTY
1999 – Divestment
“Alright Hopeton, what’s going on?” Téo was not pleased.
“I’m making a play for PanStar,” I replied. “And since Mundo’s name is on the deed, I want you to be a part of the negotiations.”
CHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE
1999 – Labor Day
I told Prentiss about my failed move to buy the PanStar building from Bolo.
Prentiss started laughing so hard, I was afraid he’d choke.
CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO
1999 – Redistributed
Bolo made it a point to reach out to me in mid-September to let me know Mundo had been informed of his imminent departure.
“If he comes to you to ask why, please just tell him I need his help out here,” Bolo requested. “He doesn’t need to know we decided this together.”
CHAPTER SEVENTY-THREE
1999 – The Hand-Over
Her name was Eula- a suburban white girl from Westchester with a raging heroin habit.
“But that’s a good thing!” Mundo rushed to reassure me. “She likes to keep herself fly and she never asks questions. All she needs is drugs and money.”
CHAPTER SEVENTY-FOUR
1999 – Boxing Day Part II
“How do you feel about your brother being sent to Panama?” I asked Cabrón.
“Relieved.”
