CHAPTER EIGHTY-NINE

2000 – Within Our Circle

The rest of our discussion was highly productive.  Pierre instantly caught onto what I was proposing.  I have a feeling it was pretty close to what he’d already led Téo to believe was already in the works.

“I’ve been doing a little small scale real estate speculation,” I began.

“I know,” Pierre interrupted.  “A few little flips here and there.   You told me about it, remember?”

“Yes,” I replied.  “But I haven’t mentioned that I’d like to bring you in on it, have I?”

Pierre shook his head and let me continue, uninterrupted.

“Okay, yes- I’d like to bring you in on this,” I confirmed.  I have the money lined up, but I need help with the day-to-day management.  I think we should concentrate on Canarsie, Flatlands and East Flatbush.”

“Your neck of the woods,” Pierre said, astutely.

“Well, those areas make sense,” I explained.  “There won’t be that much competition with other speculators, because first off, no one pays attention to those neighborhoods.  And secondly, we’ll be concentrating on off-market properties only.  Commercial or semi-commercial, like Mundo’s garage,” I said, with a laugh.

Pierre frowned but remained quiet.

“And these will all be properties that people we know- or people of people- are trying to get rid of without putting a lot of money into it,” I continued.  “I think if we could get our paperwork together quickly and start talking to people, we could probably sell close to one property a month.”

“So, do this without a real estate license, cash payment and only within our circle?” Cabrón asked.

“Exactly.”

He was getting it.

“Well, really within your circle,” Pierre amended.

“Don’t worry about all that,” I told him.  “I have that covered. First thing you need to do is get yourself an LLC.  I already have one.”

“That’s not a problem,” Pierre replied.

I have to admit, I was surprised this kid had even heard of an LLC, much less what it would be used for and how to go about getting one.  But he wasn’t stupid.  I knew he’d be able to figure it out.

To finish up the topic I said, “When we set up our own company, we can do the paperwork for that.  I think we should call it S-T Real Estate.”

“Silva-Taveras Real Estate,” Pierre said quietly.  “I like it.”

We wound up talking for hours.  It was very positive and uplifting for both of us, I think.  We both had shit we were trying to move past.  Get out from under.

“I’m going to get in touch with my father to get my LLC going,” Pierre told me.  “I’ll let you know how it goes.”

I had no idea how or why Pierre’s father would be involved in filing paperwork for him, but I left it alone.

“I’ll walk you to your car,” I said as we got up to leave.  “Where’d you park your enormous Mercedes?

“Lincoln between Flatbush and Bedford,” Pierre replied.

“Oh, that’s the block I live on,” I said, laughing.  “I own the big, blue Victorian on the left-hand side. Perhaps I should’ve offered you to park in my driveway.”

Well, now Cabrón knew where I lived.

Perhaps one day I’d let him know I’d once lived above PanStar, at an earlier point in time.
